Diamond is the most precious stone of all; and the 4C's of a diamond (color, cut, clarity and carat) is what one should keep in mind while purchasing it. When all these C's are in perfect proportion, we get a perfectly brilliant diamond. By gaining this thorough knowledge perfect selection can be done for diamond wedding rings and diamond ring settings as well.

By clarity of a diamond what we indicate is its purity. In other words, how flawless the diamond is. Basically there are two types of defects, they are inclusions and blemishes. Inclusions refer to the internal defects caused be the crystals of foreign material, or another diamond crystal or could be structural imperfections, which could be tiny cracks. The surface defects that are present are known as blemishes.

Diamond clarity is affected by factors such as number, size, color, relative location, orientation, and visibility of inclusions. The measure of the same is done by the overall appearance of the diamond under a 10x magnification.

The grades that are assigned to each type of clarity range from internally flawless to Imperfect 3.
The grade FL represents a completely flawless diamond that's absolutely free from all inclusions and blemishes.
The grade IF is assigned to those that are internally flawless, however the external flaws that are present could be removed by polishing the stone.
VVS1 - VVS2 grades are assigned to those stones that have defects present in them; however an expert would be required to detect them using a 10X microscope.
If you are able to detect the defects in a stone using a 10X microscope; however it takes you more than 10seconds, then the grades assigned are VS1 - VS2.
If you could easily detect the flaws in a stone using a 10X microscope, then the grades assigned are SI1 - SI2.

If you could detect the defects of the stone with the naked eye, then the grades assigned are I1 - I3.

Hope the information helps you in judging the diamond clarity.
